As a full-time, work at home mother, I often turn to the Bible and Christian authors for inspiration and encouragement. So often, a simple quote or a familiar verse will be just what I need to get me through the day. I have compiled a few verses and quotes that have encouraged me personally in my walk with God.
I pray they are an inspiration to you as well…
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
This is one of my all time favorite verses from the Bible. It reminds me that even if things look bleak right now, God’s got a good future planned for me. I have the assurance that God’s got my best interests in mind, and He will work all things (even a disastrous situation) out for my good.
Live a life of love. – Ephesians 5:2
Love. A simple command God has given over and over again in the Bible, and yet, something I need to constantly be reminded of. If I truly love God, it needs to be evident in my everyday life. The love of God has to overflow out of my life into the heart of my son, and my husband.
More of God, less of me.
It’s easy to be carried away by a successful business, a happy marriage, or a decent income. This quote reminds me to remain grounded in Christ, and glorify Him in and through everything I do. My prayer is that all of myself will be stripped away, and God will fill me up with more of Himself.
Out of difficulties, grow miracles. – Jean de la Bruyere
If we didn’t face any difficulties in our lives, there would be no reason for God to perform a miracle. I have personally battled a variety of difficult situations, but in all of them, God eventually showed up. His miraculous hand always turned things around for good.
One act of obedience is better than one hundred sermons. – Dietrich Bonhoeffer
God values our obedience far above anything else we may try to do for Him. Everything we do to serve Him and glorify Him will be in vain if we do not choose to obey God, and walk according to His will.
Because someone we love is in Heaven, there’s a little bit of Heaven in our home.
This quote always brings a smile to my face. Our Lord, the Master of all creation is also right at home in our midst. Isn’t that a precious thought?!
I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. – Charles Dickens
It’s the season of Christmas, and this quote reminds me to keep Christ the focus during our festivities at home. In all the holiday frenzy, may we celebrate the reason for the season, and teach our kids to do the same.
