Last week, I shared with you a tutorial on how to set up a subscriber freebie using MailChimp. Today, we’re going to see another email service that is free to start with – Mad Mimi.
Mad Mimi has a very user friendly interface and is quite easy to set up. The free plan allows you to have upto 2500 subscribers, and send 12,500 emails per month. Follow the step by step tutorial outlined below, and you’ll have the email sign up process for your subscriber freebie ready in no time.
How to Set Up a Subscriber Freebie using Mad Mimi
Step 1: Create a new account with Mad Mimi.
Go to the Mad Mimi signup page, enter your email address, set a password, and click ‘Create my account’.
You will be prompted to enter your name and company details. Fill in the required information and click ‘Continue’.
You will be taken straight to your Mad Mimi dashboard.
Step 2: Set up the sign up form.
Click on ‘Webform’ in your dashboard.
Then click on the orange ‘Add a Webform’ button.
Enter a name for your webform. This is for your reference only and will not be displayed to subscribers. Then select the fields you want to include in your sign up form. This will be the information you are gathering from your subscribers.
The form on the left will be updated in real-time as you add the fields to the sign up form.
Click on the tiny square beside each field to mark it as a required field.
Step 3: Style the sign up form.
Click on the ‘Theme’ tab to change the background color of the form, add a logo, etc.
Step 4: Set up the sign up process.
Select the ‘Advanced’ tab on the top right, and click on the grey ‘Edit activation message’ button.
This is the first email that will be sent to your subscribers as soon as they sign up. Fill up the details, include a custom subject and message and click ‘Save Custom Message’. The confirmation message and link will be automatically appended to your email.
You need to have page on your website where subscribers can go download the freebie you are offering. Copy paste the URL of the freebie download page in the ‘Activation Landing Page’ section in Mad Mimi.
So now, when subscribers confirm their subscription, they will be directed to the freebie download page on your website where they can download the freebie.
Step 5: Embed the sign up form on your website.
Click on the ‘Embed’ option at the top of the webform page.
Copy the embed code and paste it where ever you need it on your website.
You will now have an active sign up form on your website where visitors can sign up and download their freebie. Do make sure you test the sign up process with your own email address before you publicize it.
Today’s Challenge: If you don’t have an existing email service, set up your freebie download using Mad Mimi.

Thank you Cari!!
Have we mentioned how much fun your series has been? 🙂
Do you use Mad Mimi now because I like how your free offer looks in your sidebar, but MADMIMI doesn’t give me an option to customize??
Oh Alyssa, thank you for dropping by! I use Mailchimp for offering subscriber freebies. Madmimi, I used only for creating this tutorial. There might be options to customize it. Do check with their customer service.
If you need any help, just let me know!
Hey! Do you know if they make any plugins to assist with SEO?
I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good results.
If you know of any please share. Many thanks!
Hi Jenny, thank you for dropping by. I use ‘WordPress SEO by Yoast’ plugin to optimize my pages and posts. You can get it here (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-seo/) for directly install from WordPress dashboard. ‘All in One SEO’ plugin is also good.
Hope this is helpful.
Love, Sunu
This series has been super helpful, Sunu! I love that you covered how to do a freebie with all the major email services. Right now I am trying to choose which email delivery service I will go to. I’m liking Mad Mimi the best since it allows for the most subscribers on the free plan, but MailChimp seems to offer a little more options.
Will this subscriber freebie work on the free Mad Mimi plan? I’ve heard their drip campaigns only work for the paid versions so I though I’d check with you before I sign up.
Thanks for the help!
Thank you Carrie. I am right now using Mailchimp but I am planning to move to MadMimi. I hear lot of good reviews about them..and their pricing schemes are much better.
And yes , you can set up freebie with the free plan. I did the tutorial using a free plan. You can check with their support to get better clarity on the drip campaigns!
This is very helpful. I do use Mad Mimi but did not know how to set up this freebie!
Thank you!!! So easy and helpful!
Glad you found this useful….Samantha!!
I just thought I’d give you and update: following your tutorial I was able to set up a freebie campaign with Mad Mimi and it works beautifully! I’ve been slowly trying to get this accomplished and I’m thrilled with how it worked out. Thank you so much for showing the step by step process, Sunu!. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be!
Thank you, this was very helpful! I was able to set up my first subscriber freebie FINALLY! 🙂
Yay! So happy for you Sara… 🙂
