Towards the end of this month, I will be launching my first eCourse, 4 Weeks to Sell Your First Product Online. When you have your own website, one of your goals is probably to make money online. True, you may be able to sustain your site through affiliate marketing and selling ad spaces. But if you want to have a steady passive income stream, you need to create and sell your own product, be it digital or physical.
If you’re like me, you probably have tons of legitimate product ideas but you really don’t know which one to pursue. Would you believe me if I told you God has a vision for your product? Yes, He does!
I realized some time ago that God had plans for my online business, but that also worried me a bit. I was afraid of running ahead of God. I constantly asked myself:
What if I pursue this idea and it’s not in alignment with God will for me?
What if I mess up God’s perfect plan for me by going ahead with this idea?
Whenever I had a good idea, I would get confused wondering if it was within God’s will or if it was just my over eagerness.
And finally, I ended up doing nothing!
As humans living in a competitive world, we desire riches and fame. God is not against doing good business or making huge sums of money… but He will not condone it if we put money in His rightful place in our lives.
Coming back to finding God’s vision for your product, you need to look beyond the worldly gains and consider how your product can benefit your audience. If you go after the monetary gain, focusing only on how much money you’ll make or how famous you’ll become, you are off track and not in the real vision of God.
When I decided to sell my eBook, 31 Days to Start an Online Business, I had to take a hard look at what my motives were. Was it the income, being known as an author, the visibility it would bring me…? And you know what… God told me give my eBook away for FREE! So yes, for almost 10 days after the launch, my eBook was available free – no strings attached! That surely helped me keep my motives pure and stay in line with God’s vision for me.
If you would like to find God’s vision for your product, here are a few things you can do:
1. Listen to what God has been telling you
God wants to reveal His plans to you. You only need to seek Him to find out. Spend some time in His presence, read His word and He will inscribe His plans on your heart. You will then know, without any doubt that this is the idea God wants you to pursue.
2. Look at your past experiences
God has led you through unique experiences in your life that may have taught you many lessons. These experiences are a strong indicator that you will be able to create a product from the lessons you yourself have learned in the process.
3. Test your motives
When you do have a strong desire to go ahead with a product idea, make sure your motives are right. If you are sure that the product will benefit not just you, but others as well, it’s quite possible that’s what God is leading you to do.
As you proceed in the direction of God’s vision for your product, there might be struggles; you might experience setbacks. You will have to push through them and see the product to completion. But be encouraged with this:
The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand. (Psalm 37:23-24)
You might face practical difficulties and spiritual battles, you may stumble… but you will not fall. God will not let you fall! He who gave you the vision will also give you the courage to see it to completion.
We’ll be covering more of finding God’s vision for your product in Week 1 of our upcoming eCourse, 4 Weeks to Sell Your First Product Online. Stay tuned for more!
