We all know that prayer is an integral part of a Christian’s life. It is time spent in God’s presence, speaking to Him and hearing from Him. Although we know how important prayer is, it is often restricted to 30 seconds or shelved for later in the day. However, I believe that when you spend your best time with God, your day will be more effective.
Here are 3 reasons why you should start your business day with prayer.
1. Jesus did it
“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.” (Mark 1:35)
Jesus had a really good ministry going. He was into public speaking, healing, teaching and training. He was a crowd magnet, attracting varied groups of people wherever He went. One thing to be noted though, is that Jesus began each day alone in prayer with His Father. It’s no coincidence that His ministry was successful. If you want your day to be productive, start it with prayer.
2. A daily meeting with your business partner
Have you ever considered God to be your senior business partner? If you haven’t yet, you should!
“Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” (Psalm 127:1)
Unless you the give the Lord full charge of your work for the day, your labor will be in vain. God is more than willing to help you. He wants what’s best for you. And when you need wisdom and guidance for the day, you need only to ask and He will provide.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5)
Meet with your senior business partner everyday, work out your plans with Him and He will perfect it!
3. Your time is well spent
The time you spend in God’s presence will never be in vain. When you give God the best part of your day, He will take over the rest of it. When we are connected to Him, He gives us grace and strength to take our work one step at a time and meet our target deadlines.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
Choose to give God your best time and not what’s left of it. He will make everything else fall in place for you.
If you are short of words, here is a great prayer to start your day!
“Lord, help me remember that nothing is going to happen today that You and I together cannot handle.”
